This policy explains what personal information Tech Media Daily collects when you use techmediadaily.co.uk, why we collect it, how long we keep it and what rights you have over it. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legal boilerplate.

Information we collect
Newsletter subscriptions
If you subscribe to our newsletter we store your email address, the date you subscribed and the page you subscribed from. We use this only to send the newsletter. We do not sell email addresses, rent them, or share them with advertisers.
The lawful basis is your consent, which you give by submitting the form. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in any edition, or by emailing us. We keep your address until you unsubscribe, after which it is deleted.
Comments
If you leave a comment we collect the name, email address and website you provide, along with your IP address and browser user agent string. The IP address and user agent are collected to help detect spam, which is a legitimate interest in keeping the site usable.
Comments and their associated data are retained indefinitely so that follow-up replies remain readable in context. You can ask us to delete a comment and the data attached to it at any time.
If you use a Gravatar-linked email address, a hashed version of it may be sent to the Gravatar service to retrieve your profile image. Gravatar operates its own privacy policy.
Messages you send us
If you email us, we keep the message and your address for as long as needed to deal with it and to maintain a record of the correspondence. Story tips and confidential correspondence are handled separately from routine email and are not added to any mailing list.
Server logs
Our hosting provider records standard web server logs, which include IP addresses, requested pages, timestamps, referring pages and browser information. These are used to operate the site securely, diagnose faults and identify abuse. They are retained for a limited period under our host’s own retention schedule.
Article popularity
We count how many times each article is viewed so that we can show a most-read list. This is a single running total attached to each article. It records no information about you, sets no cookie and cannot be linked back to an individual reader.
Spam protection on forms
To stop automated submissions, our newsletter form briefly recognises repeat submissions from the same connection. It does this using a one-way hash that cannot be reversed into an IP address, and the hash is discarded after thirty seconds. No IP address is stored.
Cookies
We use cookies sparingly.
- Comment cookies. If you leave a comment you may opt in to saving your name, email and website in cookies, so you do not have to retype them. These last up to one year and are set only if you tick the box.
- Login and session cookies. These apply only to registered contributors and administrators signing in to the site.
We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles or to track you across other websites. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will continue to work.
Third parties
The site loads typefaces from Google Fonts. When a page loads, your browser requests those font files from Google’s servers, which means your IP address is visible to Google as part of that request. Google states it does not use these requests to identify individuals or serve advertising. Google is based in the United States, so this involves a transfer of that data outside the UK and EEA.
Where an article embeds content from another service, such as a video or a social media post, that service may set its own cookies and receive your IP address when the embed loads. Those services operate under their own privacy policies, which we do not control.
Our articles link to other websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of sites we link to.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you, and receive a copy of it;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data erased;
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- receive data you gave us in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
To exercise any of these, email privacy@techmediadaily.co.uk. We respond within one month. There is no charge.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you raised it with us first so we can put it right.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection. Access to subscriber data is limited to people who need it to run the publication. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise, but we take reasonable steps to protect the small amount of personal data we hold.
Children
This site is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top of this page. Material changes to how we use personal data will be announced on the site.
